ABOUT ME

Hey there! That's me, Julia.

And this is the house that was built four years ago.

I decided to write this blog as a journal while my husband and I built this house for our family. (Okay, WE didn't build all of it, builders did, but you get my meaning, right?!) This blog began to document our experience building our home - from buying land, to picking out appliances, to painting the front porch. Along the way, I learned A LOT about DIY and decorating.  Most importantly, I learned that with a new home, there are an endless amount of projects that need attention.

When my husband and I had our home built, the builder left us with a finished basement and first floor.  To save money, we had the second floor left completely unfinished, requiring the construction of walls, all of the plumbing, installing a second furnace, and the general painting and finishing.

It was a rewarding and fun journey.  Unfortunately we had to leave this home and it's on the market now.  It is a little sad, and I will miss our home. The forturnate part is that I learned so much building that house.

Aaand, the kids and I have a new home (which is actually old), and it has lots of new things to teach me, I am sure!!   We love our new house and are excited to write a new chapter here.  Pictures to come!!!

So as I make this "new" house into a home, I hope you'll follow along.

Join me in days that are filled with kids, cooking and DIY ~ I love going to thrift stores, and garage sales, and The Home Depot.  I love making things for my home and I do it on a budget. My passion is turning what most consider "junk" into something useful.

Please have a look around! While you're here I hope you'll find some of our experiences helpful, and if not helpful, amusing. We do a lot of laughing around here!

And please, please share your ideas, photos and comments with me! I would love to hear from you!

In the spirit of sharing, here are some pix of my family!

This is my 16 year old daughter with me. There is no significance in this picture, I think we were in the car waiting to collect my son from school.

The three "little" ones (ages 6, 13 and 16):

That's it for now. I hope you stick around for a while, and drop me a comment - I'd love to meet you!
